Privacy Policy for Japa Counter
Effective date: August 2, 2026
Japa Counter ("the app") is developed and maintained by Srikanth ("we", "us", "our"). This policy explains what happens to your data when you use the app and when you visit this website. The short version: the app collects no personal data and requires no account. Your count, target, preferences, and journal never leave your device. We may use a crash-reporting/analytics service to catch bugs, described below.
1. Data the app collects
Japa Counter has no backend server and no advertising SDK. It does not:
- Require you to create an account or sign in
- Collect your name, email address, or any contact information
- Access your location, contacts, camera, or microphone
- Contain any advertising SDK
The app may use a crash-reporting or analytics service — see the next section for details.
2. Crash & diagnostic reporting
We may use a third-party crash-reporting or analytics service (for example, a service such as Firebase Crashlytics or Google Analytics) to help us catch and fix bugs. We haven't settled on a specific provider yet; this section will be updated to name it once one is integrated, and it will also be reflected in the app's Play Store Data Safety section. When such a service is active, it may automatically collect, on a crash or unexpected error:
- The crash log / stack trace
- Device model, OS version, and app version
- A randomly generated app or device identifier, used only to group and de-duplicate crash reports — not linked to your name, email, or any account
This data would be processed by the provider on our behalf, used solely to improve the app's stability, and would not be combined with other data to identify you personally. It is separate from your on-device count, target, and journal, which no such service can see.
3. Data stored on your device
To function, the app keeps the following information locally on your device only:
- Your current count and round target
- Your sound, vibration, and feedback preferences
- Your session journal (dates, round counts, and chanting-speed intervals), used to show your own progress over time
This data is stored in the app's local storage on your device and is never synced, backed up to a server we control, or shared with us. Uninstalling the app removes this data. If you use Android's built-in device backup, this data may be included in your personal Google account backup — that backup is controlled by Google and your device settings, not by us.
4. Permissions the app uses
The app requests the Vibration permission only, used to give you tactile feedback each time you count. If you choose a custom notification sound in Settings, Android's system ringtone picker is used to select it — this is handled entirely by the operating system and no sound file or identifier is sent anywhere.
5. This website
This site (japacounter.srikans.com) is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like most web hosts, Cloudflare may process standard technical information (such as IP address and browser type) purely to serve the pages and protect against abuse. We do not add any analytics or tracking scripts to this site ourselves.
6. Optional ads page
This website may include a separate, clearly-labeled page (for example, a "Support with ads" page) that you can choose to open if you'd like to support development at no cost to you. That page is entirely optional — nothing in the app or the rest of the site requires you to visit it. If and when that page is active, it may load third-party advertising content (such as Google AdSense), which can use cookies or device identifiers to show ads and may collect data as described in that provider's own privacy policy. This does not affect the app itself, which contains no ads or ad SDKs.
7. Donations
If you choose to support the app via the donation link on our Support page, that transaction is handled entirely by our third-party payment provider (currently Buy Me a Coffee). We do not receive or store your payment details — please refer to that provider's own privacy policy for how they handle your information.
8. Children's privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect any personal data from anyone, regardless of age. The anonymous crash diagnostics described in Section 2 are not personal data and are not used to identify or target anyone by age.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the "Effective date" above and post the revised policy on this page. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
